On March 22, 2017, ACE Atlantic organized a tour of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBME) at the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton Campus). This tour was open to members and non-members. The tour was hosted by Dan Blustein who works at the IBME. He explained how the IBME is a world-renowned research institute that houses multidisciplinary research units and clinicians that are focussed on investigating and designing systems and equipment to meet the human physical requirements.
The tour focussed mainly on the clinic and research area that develops leading edge upper-extremity prosthetics. Housed in this small building on UNB’s campus is the Atlantic Clinic for Upper Limb Prosthetics where they specialize in fitting myoelectric prostheses, recreation adaptations or specially designed prosthetic devices.
There was a draw held at the end of the tour for a free one-year membership to ACE Atlantic. The winner of the draw was Jackie Toner, a Kinesiology student at UNB. We would like to welcome Jackie to ACE Atlantic!
